*Evan's journey in his own words*
My wife and I were driving to Florida for vacation in December of 2023 and hours into the drive, she asked me a simple question. When is the last time you did something for the first time? As I thought about it, I quickly realized that living a life as a working husband and father didn't allow much room for novelty. Like most people in the world, I had been so caught up in the comfort and continuity of a routine that I couldn't pinpoint when I had last tried something new.
So I set out to change that. In an attempt to disrupt routine, gain perspective, destroy my comfort zone, and learn something new, I set a goal. Take the first 100 days of 2024, and for each day, I had to try something new. From small things to big things, from things I was terrified of, to things I had completely written off, the only requirement of each day is that I would do something I hadn't ever done before. Below are just a few examples of my journey, and more info as to how I'm now using this journey to inspire others to do the same.
In a world that's never felt more isolated and disconnected, when you do something for the first time, you're are able to connect more with your self and your true identity and purpose in life, while also connecting with others who you would have never met otherwise.
To try something new invites new community into your life. Once we're intentional about surrounding ourselves with the very thing that we want to become, we discover that deeper relationships are found when we're willing to do new things.
On the other side of a new activity, new relationship, or new opportunity, we inevitably become more aware of ourselves, our world, and our role as leaders.
When we're intentional about trying new things, we become comfortable with the uncomfortable. Comfortable dealing with fear, anxiety, insecurity, and change.
